Mr. Suchanek graduated from the United State Military Academy at West Point in 1993 and was commissioned as an Infantry Officer. He served on active duty in both the Infantry and Special Forces. While on Active Duty with the 5th Special Forces Group (Airborne), he was part of the initial campaigns in both Afghanistan (2001-2) and Iraq (2003). Following active duty, he joined the Maryland National Guard as a Special Forces officer and has mobilized and deployed on combat tours in Afghanistan multiple times since. He has continued to serve as a contractor with the Joint IED Defeat Organization (JIEDDO) – now a directorate within the Defense Threat Reduction Agency (DTRA), and has deployed multiple times with them to various locations.
He has finished the coursework and is working on his dissertation for PhD in Systems Engineering through Colorado State University. He has a B.S. in Chemistry and a M.S. in Operations Research. He is an active supporter of the Scouting movement and is an Eagle Scout.

Mr. Wheeler served in the U.S. Army from 1991 through 2006 as part of Adjutant General and Finance Corps. During his final six years of service, he was assigned to the 5th Special Forces Group (Airborne) as the Finance Section lead. He was part of the initial campaigns in both Afghanistan (2001-2) and Iraq (2003), and deployed three more times to Iraq before his discharge from the Army. He was the senior Finance Officer for Task Force Dagger, overseeing tens of millions of dollars in operational funding and other disbursements. After his medically related discharge, he continued to serve in the Counter-IED fight with the Joint IED Defeat Organization (JIEDDO), the Terrorist Explosive Device Analytic Center (TEDAC), and other organizations prosecuting the Global War on Terrror.
Mr. Wheeler currently serves as the Director of Security for Catholic Health Initiative, St. Joseph Hospitals in the Lexington/Louisville, Kentucky area. This currently include the supervision of three separate locations. Mr. Wheeler brings his financial, organizational, and security expertise to the Institute.

While Dr. Suchanek was not part of the military, she served the military as an education contractor for nearly ten years overseas, while also completing her Masters degree. She has deployed in support of our forces to Kosovo and Kuwait, as well as over a year at Bagram Airbase in Afghanistan from 2005-2006. In addition to her time as a military education contractor, Karen taught English to students from all over the world in programs based out of Cork, Ireland, Madrid, Spain, and Rome, Italy. She also spent a year teaching English to Korean children in Suji, Republic of Korea (South Korea).
